glacial_queen: (Coffee-Smiling)
The weekend was over and people were back to their old selves, at least if the lovely gifts Momoko had left outside her dorm were any indication. The dorm that a sopping wet Karla had marched to last night in high dudgeon. For reasons. Lots of reasons.

But it was a new day, people were back to normal, graduation was in less than a week, and she'd gotten a special package in the mail from Kaeleer. Banard was apologetic that they likely wouldn't arrive in time for her birthday, but just holding her set Jewels in her hands was enough to make her smile.

There was a cup of coffee in her hand, an ice cream cake with 'Happy Birthday' on it, and a clear view of the street so Karla could wave to anyone who wandered by.

A lot of things had happened in Faerie since the weekend, when Leda, Karla, Blossom, and James had taken down the tyrant. A surrender had been negotiated. An ally had been buried. The rebuilding had begun.

Karla hadn't seen any of it. Immediately after her plea for clemency had been delivered, Blossom had taken her aside and proceeded to bully and browbeat her within an inch of her life. She'd been terrible. Blossom fights dirty, y'all. )

Yeah. So, that had happened. Even now that she was back to her normal size, Karla was not best pleased with Momoko for shriveling her. It was so...so...so stupid! She would have been even more upset if she didn't agree that her own behaviour had been equally stupid. Not then, she hadn't, of course. But time and distance (and food and rest and reflection) had done an excellent job of reminding her that she was a compulsive (and impulsive!) idiot.

Oh, and Warren had helped. Oh yes, he had made his feelings on the matter VERY CLEAR, pretty much from the moment that Blossom had shown up in Sunnydale.

Special Delivery! )

As Karla had started to stutter out another excuse, Warren had come to a decision of his own. He had calmly dropped her in his candyless shirt pocket, calmly proceeded to book a portal to Kaeleer, and calmly called the Hall to let Lucivar know that they would be arriving shortly--he'd needed to be somewhere he could hit things and not have to worry about pretending to be normal. Karla was pretty sure he'd also needed to be somewhere he could throttle her and not get arrested for it. They'd both known that when he finally dropped this illusion of calm, things were going to get violent.

And now, almost a full Kaeleeran week later, Karla still hadn't seen Warren since he'd handed a tiny her to Saetan. He'd been sleeping in the Consort suite with the door firmly locked between then and had risen each morning with the sun to go out to the grounds to work through his temper. For a week. Now Karla had a portal booked back to Fandom and she wasn't entirely sure she'd be seeing him before she left.

glacial_queen: (Laughter)
Karla had been packing for her move to Haven, to spend a few months being an unofficial Queen to a village full of refugee Black Widows. Had been, however, because 'packing' apparently meant 'getting chased of her chambers by Helene and several other maids while they packed because no guest leaving SaDiablo Hall would ever be seen unpacking the mess that Karla considered properly packed, which, for the record, she should be ashamed of herself for.' There had been more, but Karla had taken the better part of valour and scurried away to hide regally decamped to one of the gardens on the far side of the Hall.

Lesson learned: don't bundle up clothes and shove them into a pack. Hearth witches got testy about things like that.

She'd been hiding enjoying the sunlight for about an hour when the coven piled out of the Hall to find her. Apparently a package had arrived from Emma and if there was one thing they'd learned by now, mail from Emma meant embarrassment for some and hilarity for everyone else.

"Were you expecting anything?" "Is it from that store?" "Did she include a note?" "Open! Open it! Hurry! I want to see what she sent!" "Ten silvermarks says it's going to make the boyos blush!" "Too easy! Fifteen gold says it make ths High Lord put up an aural shield when he finds out about it." "Do you think this one runs on batteries, too? I want one like Karla has."

That last earned several scandalized gasps. "KALUSH!!!"

"What?" Kalush just laughed at them, tossing her dark hair over her shoulder. "Not all of us get to enjoy a lover before the summer is out, Karla. Morghann."

At which point Karla managed to open the box before the conversation could involve any further mention of her own purchases from Dite's. There was a moment of hushed silence as they stared at the contents of the package. Karla was the first to break down into giggles, especially when she saw that Emma had made sure to include a special adornment to show that they were meant to be Kaeleeran, err, candies. Her laughter triggered the others and soon they were laughing so hard there were tears in their eyes.

"The second one is for you lot to split amongst yourselves," Karla said, wiping her face. "Who wants to borrow a knife from the boyos so you can divvy it up?"

"No, no!" Gabrielle said between gasps. "We should wait until they're around and then take bites off of it!"

"Dibs on the tip!" Morghann said.

"And look!" Kalush announced, snagging a smaller package within the box. "Emma sent batteries, too!" Which just set Karla to facepalming and the rest of them to laughing even harder. Yup. Embarrassing one, amusing to everyone else. Good show.

glacial_queen: (Awake but in bed)
On day three of the Cold That Would Not Die, Karla blearily swam back to consciousness sometime that evening. Ugh. Where had the days gone? Oh right, they'd gotten lost somewhere in a bottle of heavy duty cough syrup. She was tempted to take more and go back to sleep until she felt less like she'd been hit by a rickshaw or three, but she was also starving and badly needed a shower.

She sent Mini-Morton off to try to scavenge her something to eat while she made a quick trip to the bathroom. It was kind of amazing how much better a shower could make you feel after several days of being almost completely comatose. Back in her room, she found Gabrielle's note and tried not to worry over much about her roommate.

Ahahaha, yeah. Right.

Climbing back into bed, she waited for Mini-Morton to come back with something edible (hopefully) tried to keep herself entertained by playing solitaire. That would be a lot easier to do if she wasn't so easily distracted by--wow. Did you know that there were faces in the patterns of the ceiling tiles? Cooool.

After the debacle of Agio (and the even more debacle-y aftermath), Karla had promised to keep Saetan, Lucivar, and Morton apprised of major events at Fandom. She might often interpret that promise as conveniently as possible, but there was no way that even she could spin the end of all creation as something other that a 'major event.' Which was why two months after reality had been repaired, she was standing in Saetan's office, telling them what had happened in stark and painful detail. Of course, since what had happened had affected all of Kaeleer, even if they didn't know it, Karla was not delivering her report to Saetan alone, or even Saetan and Lucivar. No, Jaenelle and several members of the coven and the boyos had all crowded in, too, and were listening to her clustered in the chairs at the back of his office.

It could have been worse. There might not have been a Kaeleer to return back to. Or the split between her and Warren could have been permanent, leaving her to stand in front of the High Lord's great blackwood desk alone while spilling out the story. It was comforting, having him beside her, so she could reach out and hold his hand for comfort at a few parts.

Karla had done all of the speaking up until this point, laying out all of what had happened in sparse detail. They had heard the entirety of the account, all the way up to remembering the universe back into existence without interrupting, but she didn't think that silence was going to last for very long, not as her story wound down to an end. From the shifting behind her and the faces that Saetan and Lucivar had made at various points in her tale, once she stopped talking, she was going to face a torrent of words.

Most of them probably invectives. At least from Lucivar. )

After her visit to Tony's room, Karla had made good on her conversation with Ender from this morning. After her conversations with Ender and Warren about Topher, she couldn't just not apologize.

Knowing it was the right thing to do hadn't made it easy, though.

So she was now in front of the Room of Emo Repression (Now With Bonus Sex!), kicking the door. Her arms were full of several different varieties of ice cream, while a ridiculous number of toppings floated around her. There were even bananas and jars of 'real strawberry topping' so they could have fruit and call it healthy! And perched precariously on top of the ice cream containers was a DVD of meta for- The Last Unicorn.

What? It was a romantic, cartoon musical about unicorns! Exactly what she'd wanted! A happy, breezy, light-hearted movie to take her mind off of everything else.

"Kiss kiss!" she called, kicking the door again. "Let me in before I freeze or it melts!"
glacial_queen: (Awake but in bed)
Karla'd had an excuse why she'd missed the wrapped present on her bed Friday night. She and Warren had been awake for almost twenty-four hours, fought in a battle, had gotten hurled into a bridge, made up, and then she'd performed at the Showcase. Karla counted herself lucky that she'd managed to make it to a bed, never mind her own, before collapsing and sleeping like the dead. She'd managed to drag herself to Dite's suite the next morning for baking and cookies and a Conversation, and had blearily just tossed the blankets over the top of the bed and called it made without paying attention to what else might be getting covered: pillows, pilfered stuffed animals, presents...

The excuse for missing it last night was a little thinner. She'd fallen asleep on top of her covers, reading a book and had been mostly asleep by the time she got cold enough to crawl under her blankets.

But the second thing she'd noticed when she'd finally woken up this afternoon--the first being the adorably fluffy baby penguin who'd managed to sneak into her room and cuddle with her--was a wrapped gift half-hidden under one of her pillows. All the possibilities she'd come up with for what it could be--a gift from her roommate before Gabs had left? A gesture from Warren? Random Fandom whimsy?--had not prepared her for the bloody horror within.

Her little penguin friend vanished out the door in a flurry of tiny, grey feathers as Karla opened her present and began screaming.

[Warnings for a hideous--but non-bloody--horse head statue in the last link]
glacial_queen: (The Hall/Keep)
After getting the news from Dinah yesterday, Karla was more determined than ever to head back home and see what she could dig up about the legend of Zuul. Only a legend, as far as she knew, passed down to young Queens as a warning, but there were too many pieces that fit together. The mass disappearances. The erasure of everything having to do with the vanished people. It would be stupid to just dismiss this all out of hand if there was even the slightest hope of finding something useful.

And Karla couldn't deny the rather morbid drive to discover just how much of Kaeleer had gone missing. It was hard to think of everything to ask after in a letter.

Fortunately, even with Portalocity as messed up as it was, Karla had a means of transport available. Raven had agreed to bring her here in exchange for Karla accompanying her to Jono's world. Of course, judging by the way Raven looked right now, maybe this trip wasn't the best idea ever, either.

"You okay?" Karla asked, ignoring the Keep for the moment--and the rising tide of nausea she'd had ever since they'd entered the Netherverse. "Being here bringing up bad memories, or--?"

Yeah. Karla remembered what had happened the last time bits of reality had gone missing.

[NFB for distance and for me, myself, I, and one other, please!]

Karla had come back from Panem, in a mood. After her conversation with Katniss and the bombs and Prim and...Darkness. She wasn't entirely certain if she had helped anything. Anything at all. And there was still Glacia to go back to.

Some vacation.

So rather do anything productive, Karla had spent all day in her room moping brooding, building herself up into an awful mood. She'd been on her way to a completely awful despondency, when her voicemail beeped.

She listened to it. Once. Twice. Again. Staring in shock. She was listening to it for a fourth time when she got another call. She missed it and the next call that came in while she was listening to Bobby's.

By the end of Tony's, she was on the phone herself to Ben. And laughing so hard she thought she might pull something.

Guess it was her week for it.

[Mostly establishy but open if anyone wants to pop in or call!]

So, a few nights ago, Karla had gotten a...very interesting voicemail. Then, however, had come Anakin's distress call and hilarious voicemails had gotten ignored in favor of getting here, assessing the situation, and figuring out what to do. But now, without a wedding to distract her--it wasn't like she was paying attention to her schedule anyway--Karla figured she could use with a distraction from Thirteen's bleak...everything.

Hopefully her friends would be up for some gentle teasing. Or, well, the Karla version of that.

Karla knew better, she really did. After seeing what happened to Professor Cabot in class today, she had no excuse. But she wasn't thinking about that when she got back to her dorm from class. She wasn't thinking about much of anything, other than the stupid headache she'd developed and how a can of soda might get it to back off.

Turns out, however, a headache was the least of her worries. Not only was the island having fun with St. Patrick's Day, another bout of Fandom whimsy was also about to strike.

Before she was even half-done with her soda, Karla was turned into an Arcerian kitten. To make matters worse? She was an Arcerian kitten with bright green fur.

*I hate this island,* she complained to no one in particular.
glacial_queen: (Concerned)
After the debacle during breakfast, Karla had shoo'd her other children to go find their parents or someone to play with or an activity that didn't involve breaking things or getting hurt and then dragged Raven and Rook down the second floor to her room to sort things out. Raven's room had been closer, but Karla's was empty and she didn't want Rook panicking anymore than she already was, being this close to her mother.

"Okay," she said quietly, shutting the door and setting out a small bottle of rum to keep the squirrels occupied. "What's going on here? Rook? Darling, you need to explain to us why you're so frightened of your mo--of Raven."

[For those mentioned and while it's okay to say they talked, comments are NFB, please. Rook's story will involve violence and dark themes, so a trigger-warning in effect for comments.]
glacial_queen: (Vulnerable)
Half an hour before the dance was scheduled to begin, Karla was ready. Her hair was done, makeup applied (less expertly than if Emma had done it, but at least passable), and dress--scandalously short by Karla's standards--donned and sensibly kept away from anything that could spill, leak, or stain it. Which meant that Karla was sitting on her bed, dress ruffled out so it didn't crease, not touching anything.

A lot of work and prep (and, to be honest, frustration and now boredom) for a dance Karla wasn't certain she was even going to. )

Still in her pretty red party dress, Karla snagged her phone and started dialing the number for Portalocity. There'd probably be a wait, but whatever. Maybe she'd spend the time at the dance--she'd bought a pair of tickets herself, just in case Warren had forgotten. Still listening to the phone ring, Karla yanked her door open, just in time to see--

"Warren."

[For the one mentioned, please.]
glacial_queen: (Telephone)
After watching a movie with the boyos, Karla came back to her room to leave a message. She didn't really understand everything that had happened (and the scene with the lepers would probably scar her forever), but she had to give the movie bonus points for creating a truly beautiful and tragic love story. Judas eventually betraying Jesus to his death, all out of jealousy and a misguided attempt to save him? That was just lovely. And their last kiss being one of betrayal--that had just been amazing.

She'd never realized the religions of so many of her friends had been founded on such an epic love story. Maybe she could try to talk to Rilla about this sometime. Find common ground and all that.

After hanging up with Warren's voicemail, Karla realized she had several messages of her own. Several very bizarre messages, in fact. All of which she had to respond to, of course.

Even after eventually figuring out what was going on (and trying to explain it by calling someone), she still kept getting caught by the calls and trying to call back to explain.

Of course, the worst part? Was when she realized that her message to Warren had probably gone to someone else. Hell's fire and Mother Night.

[Mostly establishy & linkdrop, but open.]
glacial_queen: (Gossip)
Karla was being very good today. Rather than fidgeting or spending all of her free time cataloging all the secret nooks and out-of-the way places she could think of on the island, she was channeling all of her extra energy into into checking on her various herbs and medicinal supplies. Between her conversations with Reno and Lady Ghanima, she thought knowing exactly what she had might come in handy.

Okay, mostly she was trying to distract herself from going down the hall and pouncing on her boyfriend. But this sounded better.

[Open!]
glacial_queen: (Naughty Thoughts)
After her conversation with Roy yesterday, Karla had been...thinking about some things. specifically, thinking about the toy she'd picked up for Dean's class, now safely vanished away where no one could see it or know she still had it. But as much as she'd been able to ignore it since buying it for her assignment, talking to Roy had reminded her it was still there, waiting in all it's unopened glory.

Now it was there. Staring at her. )
glacial_queen: (Pensive)
Spending one day hiding recuperating was one thing. No one could blame her for needing a day to adjust to the idea that she'd been very nearly killed. On a meat-tree. A day where she could hide, skip classes, ignore everyone--or nearly everyone--and just huddle under the covers for hours on end.

But putting everyone off for a second day would just be inexcusable. So rather than pull the blankets back over her head when her alarm went off, she made herself get up, shower, and head to class. After classes had ended, she allowed herself a nap--almost a week's worth of violence and trauma would wear anyone out--but after she woke up again, she made herself be sociable and productive.

Granted, that had ended up with her getting a surprise budgie, but on the scale of Fandom strange, that barely rated. So she decided to clean her room, put away the stuff from the cabins, and just generally make busy-work for herself so she could say she was being productive without actually having to think about anything. Besides, she doubted her texts from yesterday could buy her more than a day's grace, and she wanted her room to be presentable before anyone stopped to check in on her.

If nothing else, she wanted to make sure there was nothing on the floor around where she'd set up Warren's perch. She liked her belongings budgie-dropping free, thanks.

[Establishy, but open to folks who know about Karla's run-in with the maenad.]
glacial_queen: (Discontent)
After a day like yesterday, all Karla wanted to do was relax. However, that was apparently not to be. She'd had several calls to make, both of which were probably going to lead to Discussions. Actually, she was rather hoping they did--she missed Jack utterly and, well, when it came to the whole Gaia/Edge/Midgar thing, she really needed guidance. Between her vow of silence and her worry of royally screwing up an entire planet's future, there wasn't a whole lot she could say. And she doubted Cloud was okay with what little she'd been able to tell him at 'Dite's yesterday.

You know, all this on top of yesterday. And the weekend. And the summer.

So Karla was just going to spend some quality time fretting, at least for a little while. Because that was productive, yes.

[Karla's expecting one, but open for cabinmates and friends anyway. SP warning in effect, as tonight is game night.]
glacial_queen: (Sleeping-Exhausted)
After discovering that Mooner was indeed dead and yet had still come back to visit somehow, Karla had stumbled back to her room, mind awhirl. Was that why she'd been dreaming of her parents all week? Was that what that voice had meant when it whispered, "if you dream them, they will come"? Could they, perhaps, even be waiting in her room right then, waiting for her?

She practically dashed to her room, flinging open the door, face wreathed with smiles of welcome--

--to find it as empty as she'd left.

She'd stayed up, waiting, almost all night. No one. Nothing. Radio mentioned other people having visitors, but no one arrived for Karla.

Aching and crying bitter tears, Karla had finally fallen into a fitful sleep, just before dawn.

Several hours later, however, two figures showed up outside her dorm room door. One of them tried the knob; it turned easily at his touch, and the door swung open.

[Meant to be posted much earlier, but I am made of fail.]
