Caleb had felt like he'd been dropped in at the deep end when it came to movies so he'd made a trip to the library to do a bit of reading and list-making, and now he was armed with a supply of micro-waved vittles mun just wanted to use that word (enough to share of course) and the instruction manual for the DVD player so he could try to ease himself the modern movie scene a bit.

So far he had Dracula Alucard starring Bela Lugosi from 1931, Metropolis Proletariat Robot Rebellion from 1927, Duck Soup a Marx Brothers movie, and the Rankin and Bass animated adaptation of The Halfling from 1977.

He'd considered Snow White, but decided that Disney deserved to be a project in and of itself.

He'd welcome company.

"A merry fucking un-birthday to you all, your fake IDs are here," Constantine proclaimed, pointing at the piles of various identifications on his desk. "Find your documents, then grab a seat."

"I want you today to come up with the identity that goes with those documents -- what makes that person different from you, what's the same? Even if you used your real name, if you were trying to get out of a sticky situation, what lies would you tell about yourself?"

"All the really good lies have some basis in truth, and it's best to practice them in advance. Knowing your persona before you start getting quizzed by a cop can be a lifesaver."

The castle from last week was still in the library, but now it was somehow suspended, upside down, from the ceiling. Arden was ignoring it. She had also been ignoring the gremlins dueling one another with foam swords, but that had led to a little bit of a mishap.

Which was why Arden was busily affixing fake flowers to the gremlins, a bite mark visible on her hand, murmuring, "If the rose is knocked off your chest, you lose the duel."

Sometimes these things just happened, okay? Don't worry about that, just focus on the baller song playing pretty much on repeat all day.

Harley made for quite a visible sight in the park, wearing her bright yellow faux fur coat.

But, yanno. She was there with her giant hyena, so depending on the person, maybe Bruce was still the most eye catching living thing around, 'less you happened to be from somewhere where both spotted hyenas and people with loud fashion senses were a dime a dozen -- in which case maybe the flamingos were the biggest point of interest?

Anyway!

Harley was there, watching Bruce stalk the flamingos by the pond again.

The birds were not having it.

"I keep tellin' ya, baby," Harley called out to him, after a sip from her takeaway cup, "ya gotta watch out for the wings and the legs! And the beak! The whole bird, basically!"

Your teachers were here, and a projector was on, so they really were hitting three for three so far this semester.

"The thing is kids," Aphra started them off this week. "In order to write, you need to read. A lot. Good stuff so you can learn what works, bad so you lean why it doesn't."

"And utterly terrible so you have the confidence that whatever you come up with will be better," Isabela added. "And luckily there's a place where you can find all three."

Isabela dramatically pressed a button, and a website appeared on the screen. Isabela frowned at it, then took out her phone, poked at it, and frowned at that.

It wasn't that neither Isabela nor Aphra hadn't noticed the clearly labelled upcoming maintenance warnings on the site, it was just that when it came down to it, they didn't care enough about Earth time-zones to realise it'd be down during their class.

"I guess there's also the library," Aphra said eventually.

Good morning. Wednesday again, which most of you probably already know. I don’t have many notes from yesterday so this will be quick.

2 notes from the school. Raiden taught his Feeding Yourself 101 students how to make eggs. Ethics was canceled due to…lack of bacta? I wonder if I ought to be concerned about that.

Nothing from the dorms. Sorry, porg.

*chittering*

Why would I apologize to the rest of you for not having many notes? You don’t care. He does!

Finally, one note from the town. Lucifer was at The Devil’s Nest playing piano and arguing with Tiny about appropriate song choices.

That’s all I have. Try not to freeze. It’s cold.

"Okay," Raiden said. "Now that you're familiar with the equipment, let's talk food! Specifically, let's talk eggs. Now, there are a million ways to cook eggs. You could make a whole class out of that! In fact, hmm." He paused, then said, "Something to think about for the future," and shook it off. "Today we're going to make scrambled eggs, because they're easy and delicious. With toast, you've got a great breakfast, or any meal, really. Breakfast for dinner is always a great choice!"

Raiden proceeded to demonstrate how to make scrambled eggs and toast for the class. "You can also add stuff to your eggs, from herbs to cheese or even some bacon or veggies to make 'a scramble,' which is like an omelet only you don't have to be so fussy with it. The sky's the limit! Get to cooking," he encouraged them.

Hey there, Fandom. What up, it's me, ya girl Arden Finch, bringing you all of yesterday's top stories today. I'm oddly cold in this radio station, so we're skipping over all the cute commentary so I can run back to Midnight and cuddle up under my blankets, let's goooo!

School started with Squirrel!, where we denied our ADHD tendencies to put together a puzzle, and then Beginning Gourmet Cooking Techniques made cookies to impress upon us the importance of measuring. Honestly, if I got cookies in exchange for learning more things, I'd probably be a genius. And in Tasks, Professor Pryde-Barton had people trying to get potatoes into holes without touching the red green and the squirrels assure me this makes sense in context, but also, they're drunk before ten am, so you tell me how trustworthy they are.

No Dorms which I'm good with because of the aforementioned cold, and in Town, it was Caleb's - hi, Caleb! - first day at Furnado. Congrats! At the Trooper Station, Officer McGarrett was making important phone calls, and at the Infinite Consortium, Professor Vess found a mask that the squirrels assure me is 'creepy af', before Sairis - hi, Sairis! - stopped by for tea and to catch her up on his week. Professor James Stark brought fries to the Clinic, and at The Devil's Nest, Mr. Tiny was trying to convince Mr. Northman that the people would want popcorn-infused rum.

...That sounds very dubious and I don't even drink.

But anyway! That's all my notes, so this is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off and heading back to bed. I'll be leaving with you Asha's Queen of Bad Decisions, which represents my decision to go outside at all today. Bye, Fandom!

"'Contemporary British'," Lucifer echoed, eyeing Tiny as if he'd lost his mind. "And pray tell, what's 'contemporary British'? Dua Lipa? Absolutely not."

Tiny polished the bar with a swipe.

"Why not?" Lucifer said, shaking his head. "I'm not dunking on her qualities as a hook writer, it's just that I am not a trend-chasing Devil, Tiny. Honestly."

He adjusted his jacket and eyed the keys. "No," he said. "Hm. Contemporary British..." He put his hands down on the keys.

Ah, yes.

"So rock 'n roll, so corporate suit-- So damn ugly, so damn cute. So well-trained, so animal, so need-your-love, so fuck-you-all..." He hammered down on the chords. "I'm not scared of dying, I just don't want to; if I stopped lying, I'd just disappoint you-- watch me come undone!"

After putting a potato in a hole this morning, Stark arrived at the clinic with coffee and...french fries. It seemed like a day for potato products.

"Brought snacks," he said, putting everything down on a counter behind the front desk. "And coffee. Always coffee."

Even the crab got fries which he eagerly snapped up.

"Good weekend?" one nurse asked.

"Just quiet," Stark answered. "Very quiet."

The clinic was open, the crab was stuffed with potato (not like that), and the alien was in.

So we have Gregorith was jamming out to some Chappell Roan at the museum. He also made his way to The Perk, where he met Saris, who was a little thrown off by him.

And that's all I've got. Till next week, unless I see you in classes.

deathsmajesty: Art: Liliana Vess by Frost Llamzon (Random - Alas Poor Yorick)
[personal profile] deathsmajesty posting in [community profile] fandomtownies
It was always the luck of the draw when Lilian was unpacking crates. She might find anything from a priceless historical treasure to a hideous, indestructible doll with razor legs. Sometimes, she even found things relevant to her own history; usually items of Dominarian make that she recognized but every so often, things she specifically recognized. After all, kick around for a couple hundred years and visit dozens of planes and eventually the odds just fell in favor.

Very few earned such an immediate response as today's item, however. A mask. Not just any mask, but a mask meant to look like Griselbrand, one of the four demons with whom she'd made a deal with for the return of her youth, her immortality, and some measure of her old power in exchange for her battered and tarnished soul.

One of the two that she had already killed in order to get said battered and tarnished soul back.

Unearthing it from the packing material, Liliana wasn't sure whether to laugh or to gloat. Griselbrand was dead and she was gloriously alive, after all.

But receiving such an idem was quite the unexpected happenstance...even moreso when one considered that the dragon that had sent her here was the very same dragon that had brokered the demonic deal she was still benefitting from.

A coincidence? A gift? A threat?

Liliana couldn't tell.

"Today," Hannibal announced, "we're going to discuss measuring. When following recipes, it's important to measure correctly. Dry ingredients and wet ingredients are measured differently."

He discussed how most common items were measured, then presented them all with a simple recipe. "Today, we will each make a batch of these cookies. We will discuss each step as we go through it - how to properly position the oven racks and pre-heat it, how to measure everything, and how to cook them. Please ask for any additional help you may need."

When everyone arrived in the classroom, they'd find the chairs all pushed aside to clear a space in the middle of the floor, and Jon holding a box.

"One thing that's supposed to help concentration and stress is doing puzzles. All sorts, including things like sudoku and crosswords." Which he had considered, but decided to forego. You're welcome, medieval Henry.

"So I thought we could work on one together." Surely that would foster cooperation and nobody would get annoyed at someone else doing the puzzle wrong or piece-hoarding, right?

He opened up the box and poured the pieces into a pile, then set up the box to one side.

Finally he picked up the phone. "Howzit, Chin," he began. "Danny and I were thinking that since we're here so much, we might look at expanding the Five-O team back home. Can you put out some feelers, see if you can turn up any likely candidates?"

After another ten minutes of chatting, he hung up and wondered why putting out that request felt like defeat.

The Trooper Station was open! Please give Steve a distraction.

I'll make a note.

Okay, we have just a little bit from yesterday, Sairis learned about the wonder that is The Perk before meeting Greg and discussing demons and summonings and that sort of thing. Magic. Not exactly my wheelhouse.

But that appears to be all we've got. Stay warm, folks!
