Room 204, Sunday Afternoon

It was sad being stuck in sweaters and sweatshirts again--and right now Karla was wearing both because it was cold, dammit--but it wasn't like there was nothing to do in Fandom. Just because they were no longer in Hawaii didn't mean they couldn't keep themselves entertained.

...It just all had to be inside. And not on the beach. And probably wouldn't involve brightly colored drinks decorated with cute plastic animals and tiny umbrellas.

Instead, Karla had decided that the boyos were going to host another movie night. Rather than let Ender choose the film, she'd grabbed one about a snake and a magical cup or something. She hadn't really been paying attention. Actually, she was planning to use it for background noise while she and Ben bitched about Ender's tan and she laughed at Ben for getting his face stuck to the table that one time.

"Kiss kiss!" she called, poking her head through the door. "I'm bored, so guess what! We're hanging out today!"

Weren't they so lucky?

"Pyth-- No, I think that's the comedy--"

Ender sighed, as someone picked up on the other side of the line. "Yes, hello, we'd like to order...?"

They'd have to figure it out themselves.

"It could be a last name," Ben offered, flopping back onto his bed and leaving room for Ender. "Monty sounds like it could be a first name. A kind of stupid first name, but still."

"I thought it was the snake's name," Karla said. "Like Kaelas and Ladvarian. I'm assuming it's a talking snake."

Because watching a movie about a silent snake would just be stupid, that's why.

"And order of friend dumplings, please!"

"...and dumplings," Ender finished, shooting them both a look. "Seriously, it isn't a person-- or a snake. It's--"

Sigh.

"Yes, at the school-- Yes, I'll come pick it up. Yes. Can I just take a moment to-- no, of course--"

"If he tells us it sings or dances or secretly loves its best friend, I'm going to laugh at you a lot for your taste in movies," Ben informed Karla.

"As long as it doesn't end with whippings and crucifixions, I'll be happy," Karla muttered. "And what's wrong with secretly loving your best friend?!"

"The love-story was the best part of the movie!"

Yeah, the only reason Karla wasn't getting glared at was that it would be far too obvious, thank you. Instead, Ender was going to place his order in complete calm, thank you.

He clicked off his phone. "Food's coming," he said, "And that isn't about snakes, but let's just watch the movie and you'll find out." He hadn't actually seen it himself, but he knew the troupe.

Ben leaned back against the wall and began watching. Halfway through the credits he offered, "This is kind of odd."

It had been a legitimate slip of the tongue! Which she'd covered up like a ninja.

"...Is this a movie about a moose, too?" Karla asked. "And why are there slashes through the o's?"

"It's a joke about the Swedish language," Ender said, getting up and moving over so he could sit down in that space Ben had so thoughtfully made for him. "They use a slightly different alphabet like that, but the joke is that it's still English."

Sigh, having to explain Earth humor.

"Besides, they've all been sacked," Ben replied with a little snicker.

"I'm still trying to figure out how you can carve initials into a moose with an interspace toothbrush," Karla said, before laughing at more of the credits. "Special moose effects? Moose choreography?"

"Why, don't you want to know who gave the large moose on the left hand side of the screen in the third scene from the end, a thorough grounding in Latin, French, and 'O' level geography?" Ender prompted.

But he managed to do so with a straight face.

Admire it.

Ben snorted and reached out to give him a playful shove. "A new career option just opened up for you," he teased.

"You can start practicing on the teal deer!" Karla added, stealing more of the chips while Ben was busy. "Work your way up to moose. Mind you, moose bites can be pretty nasty!"

Ender snorted as he went along with the shove - briefly, and without freezing up - and then jabbed Ben in the shoulder with two fingers. "I'd love to train the moose that will chase you and try to eat you one day," he said, "But I only have so much time in my schedule to deal with Skywalker-related threats."

Ben grinned at him. "I'm thrilled to be on the schedule at all," he teased before settling back to watch the start of the movie.

"...are those coconuts?"

"Like animals need to be trained to want to eat Ben," Karla snorted. "It's a family trait. Unlike burning to a crisp while walking past a window."

Ender and his tan were going to be over here, stealing a few chips and looking faintly amused. "At least he didn't decide to tan lying on his front," he offered. "He can still sit down."

"Please, please tell me someone burned their rear on this trip," Ben said with a laugh, snagging a few chips before his two friends stole them all.

Because Ender and his three chips were going to provide a serious threat for that.

"If they are, I'm so not volunteering to help them apply the sunburn unguent I made," Karla declared.

"...Probably."

There were a few exceptions, all right?!

Yeah, Ender's appetite wasn't really a match for either of the other ones in this room. Don't worry, Ben. "That's going to come to bite you in the ass," Ender commented. "Pun not intended."

"Halt, who goes there?"

"It is I, Arthur, son of Uther Pendragon from the castle of Camelot. King of the Britons! Defeater of the Saxons! Sovereign of all England!"

Ben burst into hysterical giggles. "That's supposed to be Arthur?"

Karla's response was much more mature. "THEY MADE A MOVIE? ABOUT ARTHUR?!" she yelped, making a face. "Ewww, turn it off! I wanted a good movie!"

Ignore how she'd been in stitches up to that point, okay? Someone was still holding a grudge.

IT HADN'T BEEN HER CRAFT THAT GOT THEM ALL IN TROUBLE, ARTHUR. DARKNESS.

Ender, being the only person in the room not a) in hysterics or b) yelling, sighed.

"I'm sure someone has told you that Arthur's a bit of a legend in our time," he said. "And a favorite topic for movies."
