Room 204, Sunday Afternoon

It was sad being stuck in sweaters and sweatshirts again--and right now Karla was wearing both because it was cold, dammit--but it wasn't like there was nothing to do in Fandom. Just because they were no longer in Hawaii didn't mean they couldn't keep themselves entertained.

...It just all had to be inside. And not on the beach. And probably wouldn't involve brightly colored drinks decorated with cute plastic animals and tiny umbrellas.

Instead, Karla had decided that the boyos were going to host another movie night. Rather than let Ender choose the film, she'd grabbed one about a snake and a magical cup or something. She hadn't really been paying attention. Actually, she was planning to use it for background noise while she and Ben bitched about Ender's tan and she laughed at Ben for getting his face stuck to the table that one time.

"Kiss kiss!" she called, poking her head through the door. "I'm bored, so guess what! We're hanging out today!"

Weren't they so lucky?

"...It doesn't?" Karla asked.

"It does," Ender agreed, "Or at least pretty frequently. 'Is there something with teeth outside? Let me get my lightsaber!'"

"See if I let you have any more of my chips," Ben sulked. "I'll just let you both get eaten next time."

Yeah, fat chance of that happening.

"Because the Darkness knows that that you're only reason I haven't been devoured yet," Karla teased. Then reconsidered. "Well, it does help that they all go rampaging after you..."

"That did come in handy on Dathomir," Ender said, "Though I probably wouldn't have had anything chasing me on Dathomir if it wasn't for you."

"Just a flesh wound!" the movie declared, as if showing its solidarity with Ender.

"You wouldn't have had a reason to be on Dathomir without me, unless you were in the market for a heavily armed, skewing toward the humorless and tattooed, wife," Ben replied.

No that was Mat

"I think that might be a point in Ender's favor again," Karla said. Helpfully.

"Not really helping your case," Ender agreed, then paused. "This would start to get a little gruesome, if it wasn't for the red pea soup."

Ben looked back and made a face. "Another point in favor of the lightsabers. Much less messy during duels."

"How is he still talking?" Karla asked. "He should be on the ground in shock."

Because the movie had been so keen on realism up to this point.

... and there went his other leg.

"I'm not sure 'messy' or 'realistic' is really the goal here. I think Monty Python was famous for absurdist comedy...?"

Venturing into places even Ender's three-year-long bored-and-solitary stint on Eros hadn't reached.

"It's pretty absurd," Ben agreed, giggling.

[glacial_queen]

"It's not even violence anymore," Karla said, shaking her head at the movie and laughing. "It's just..."

Unfortunately, the word cartoony wasn't in her vocabulary.

"Cartoony," Ender provided, with a little smile. He was the only one not laughing - he didn't find it that funny - but he wasn't about to put a damper on their laughter. (It wasn't that it gave him issues or anything, but it reminded him just enough of the thousands of silly deaths his character had gone through in the Mind Game that it didn't seem all that hilarious.)

"Come back and I'll bite yer legs off!"

"This is a very strange film," Ben declared.

"Is this all really going to happen to Arthur?" Karla asked, eyes delighted. She was going to send them a copy soon as she could. Maybe they could watch it on their phones.

"Probably not quite like this," Ender said, stealing another chip.

Then his phone gave a beep.

"And that'll be the signal our Chinese food is ready. I'll go pick it up downstairs." He slid off the bed.

Ben waited until Ender had disappeared and then grinned at Karla. "You should send them coconuts," he said. "The knights should get used to them now."

Karla dissolved into giggles. "It would be unfair to spring them on them at the last moment," she agreed piously. "Perhaps I should make a list for a care package as we watch."

"Excellent," Ben said. "Add a large wooden rabbit, too."

"I liked the idea of a large wooden badger, myself," Karla decided. "They're meaner. Seems more fitting."

Ender wasn't coming in through the door bag-of-food first just to appease the ravening animals within the room. It was just convenient, really.

...And appeasing.

"Come grab your order," he said, tossing the bag on the bed where there was some space. He snagged one box and climbed back up next to Ben.

Ben rummaged through until he found his food and started munching on an eggroll. "Thanks for going to get it," he said politely.

"Of course you'd only be polite when you're being fed," Ender joked, lightly.

"Yum!" Karla cheered diving to get her box of dumplings and her lo mein and her fried rice and her beef and broccoli and her kung pow chicken and... "Oooh, Ben, do you have eggrolls?"

She was hungry!
