Because of the time-shift in Kaeleer, the portal the would bring them back to school for seven in the morning, Fandom time, wouldn't actually arrive to get them until around two in the afternoon, Kaeleer time. Which meant that there was still one more day to wander the Hall and plenty of time to say good-bye.

Jack had enough manners not to ask if that applied to sex, though the thought crossed his mind.

Instead, he held out a hand. "Could I see the blade?" he asked. "Just to get the weight of it."

Lucivar hesitated a moment, then reversed the blade and handed it over to Jack. "It'll probably be lighter than you're used to," he warned.

The hilt of the blade was weighted, to make it sit more firmly in the hand, and the edge was weighted, too, in order to give more power to the swing, since there wouldn't be any traction in the air. It was curved, more like a saber than a shortsword.

And if this doesn't make sense for a sword, then blame magic!

He looked back at Lucivar, self-conscious. "I know a bit of fencing. It's not really used in my time, but my guardian believed in a complete education."
