Room 218, Thursday Evening

Karla was being very good today. Rather than fidgeting or spending all of her free time cataloging all the secret nooks and out-of-the way places she could think of on the island, she was channeling all of her extra energy into into checking on her various herbs and medicinal supplies. Between her conversations with Reno and Lady Ghanima, she thought knowing exactly what she had might come in handy.

Okay, mostly she was trying to distract herself from going down the hall and pouncing on her boyfriend. But this sounded better.

"Flexible, huh?" Karla had to mull that one over for awhile. "How but was it? I mean--" she couldn't help but flush "--was it snug on your finger, or could it fit over someone with, uhh, slightly bigger hands?"

Like, say, a male's hand. For example.

"It was snug, but the material seemed like it would stretch easily." Triela eyed Karla thoughtfully. "Why, though? Your fingers are about the same size as mine..."

"I, yeah, umm...Warren's aren't," she explained, totally not blushing, really. Though she did cough. "I was thinking it might be interesting to...yeah. There's no rule that says they must be used solo..."

Oh. That made sense, actually.

But, wait...

Triela frowned. "But someone else wouldn't know your body as well as you do. Wouldn't that make it less satisfying?"

"Maybe?" Karla said. "But if the plan is to help him learn my body..." she trailed off and laughed, a bit self-consciously. "Besides, with him? It's less the getting there and more the trip."

But also the getting there.

Triela frowned. "I don't understand." Even during sex-pollen time, Triela saw it mostly as a chore to be taken care of.

"When we're kissing or touching or even doing more that that," Karla said, a dreamy smile on her face, "I'm not focused on the end result. Everything just feels so good at that moment: the warmth of his hands, the softness of his lips, the scrape of his teeth..." Mmm. She shivered a bit. "It's all just nice. So nice that sometimes I don't want it to stop, even knowing what might be waiting at the end."

"Oh."

Triela considered that.

"I've never experienced anything like that."

"Have you ever had a crush on someone?" Karla asked, pretty sure of the answer. But still. It might have changed. She'd gone to the dance with Jak, after all.

It wasn't Wednesday, fortunately. "No."

Of course while it wasn't Wednesday, it wasn't like Triela had suddenly become a good liar.

Karla raised her eyebrow. "Was I supposed to believe that?"

"Yes?" Way to pile convincingness on top of convincingness there.

"Funny how I don't," Karla said dryly. "Wanna try again? With the truth, this time?"

"It doesn't matter." That, at least, was kind of the truth? Sort of?

Since it's not like anything could happen... Not now.

"On the contrary, it does," Karla argued. "Spit it out, Triela."

Triela sighed and looked down at her boots. They were very nice boots, after all.

"I... think I had a crush once." She wasn't sure, of course, but... she thought that's what it had been.

"Go on," Karla invited. "Triela, admitting you have a crush isn't the end of the world, you know. There are plenty of worse things to have had."

Triela scowled, but sighed. After all, Karla had helped with her other problem this week, maybe she'd have something useful to say about this, as well.

"Leto."

She shot Karla a quick glare, just in case the other girl was tempted to scoff or giggle or something like that.

There would be no scoffing, at least!

"Mmm, Leto," Karla said, because it was that week and Leto was nummy. "Was that really so dreadfully hard?"

"I don't even like him," Triela objected harshly.

Except for, you know, the whole maybe liking liking him thing.

"That's how it happens a lot in my novels," Karla said with a nod. "You spend a lot of time sparring and fighting and that hides the burgeoning sexual attraction."

Ah, romance novels. Just where someone wanted most their practical knowledge to come from.

"There isn't any... burgeoning sexual attraction!"

Snapping like that was very convincing. Except that Karla had probably seen that same reaction in her novels, so she knew what it meant.

"Suuuuuuuuuure." Karla sounded very convinced. "No heroine's ever despised her hero." Hell's fire, Karla wanted to throttle Alex any time they talked and she could admit he ramped her pulse a bit. "What's your definition of a crush?"

Triela didn't want to answer that question. Fortunately, Karla had said something else that could be focused on. "Heroine?"

"The female lead in a novel," Karla explained, though while they're language developed on patriarchal lines when they were a matriarchy is beyond the understanding of this narrative, who reads way too much into these things. "Don't try to change the subject, Triela. These feelings are important."
