Another day, another stupid Court function that Karla had to deal with. She wasn't even sure what this one was for; Lord Mallory was under strict instructions not to tell her unless it was for something important. Otherwise, he had to deal with her scandalized, "We're having a function for this?!?!" and no one--least of all Lord Mallory--wanted to deal with that.

Tonight, however, Karla found she minded Court shenanigans far less than usual. She was wearing a rather severe black gown, very different from her usual attire, but perfect for showing off her latest accessory. Jono might not appreciate being worn around her neck like a boa, but she hadn't appreciated spending all day with a headache and an upset stomach the day he'd turned into a snake and bitten her.

As a precaution, she'd milked his fangs that afternoon before getting ready. She couldn't guarantee he wasn't going to bite anyone (and didn't actually want to), but she wasn't going to let him accidentally kill someone either. Because that would be a right pain in the ass to deal with.

Her Fandom friends all got a picture text that said Me and a snakey selfie. Lookit his grumpy little face! Can you guess who? before she headed down to mingle. Because destroying Jono's dignity one snapchat at a time was pretty much her life's work.

"You know he's going to kill you in your sleep the moment he's got hands to hold a pillow with, right?"

Yeah, Warren's phone had just gone ding. Right there, at the function. A lot of people had given him confused looks. Particularly when he pulled the little glowing rectangle from his pocket, taken a look at it, and then started laughing.

Because, really, Jono was a very miserable looking little snake. Particularly after having his fangs milked.

"Pfft," Karla said, sliding her hand through Warren's arm. Around her neck, Jono hissed grumpily and shifted ever so slightly. "He loves having his picture taken. You can tell. Look at his happy little face!"

Snakey-Jono did not look happy. He looked somewhere between aggravated and resigned.

"I think I've looked less miserable while molting," Warren replied, giving Jono a critical sort of look. Jono, in reply, reared his little head back to show off his teeth. "... But that is kind of adorable."

Bring it, Jono. Warren had just gotten over the worst case of poison ivy in the history of Kaeleer, his healing factor was back up and running properly, and he could handle a little snake venom.

Well, no one had to worry about snake venom tonight. You're welcome, everyone else. Karla had your back.

Stroking Jono's head with her finger, Karla graciously nodded to various greetings, ever amused by the expressions of the aristos when they first caught sight of her unusual accessory and then when they realized that it was moving.

"He wanted to be here," Karla lied outrageously. "As a member of the First Circle, he thought it was his duty to accompany us tonight. Isn't that right, Jono?"

"I suppose there's a first for everything." Warren was grinning a little as he said that, so it was entirely possible that he wasn't being serious. Maybe.

If you squinted.

"Really, he should have turned into a snake much sooner. Maybe we would have been able to get him to attend all of the other functions that the First Circle is supposed to appear at, too."

Jono was so going to bite Warren's ass the moment the opportunity presented itself.

Look, Sookie had a limited pool of people to choose from here. Some suspects were less likely than others, and Warren had not ever especially screamed 'snake' to her.

Do I want to know? was Emma's reply, as she held her phone under her desk, typing off a reply in the middle of one of her classes. Not that she was alone in her use of social media; half the class was doing the same thing at any given time.

Isn't Jono pretty? she sent, not even bothering to hide her phone usage. No one here understood what she was doing anyway.

The socks are because it's mid-fall already. He's too tiny and cold-blooded to allow him to wander around without something warm.

That wasn't stopping her from showing Jono the links. Because him in a top hat and a monocle would be the absolute cutest.

I think Jono might need sanctuary more than I will. I'm having a ball, she sent, along with a picture of Jono in thick woolly sock.

It's winter here, so he has to stay warm!

Jono needs whimsy in his life, Karla explained cheerfully. It's how he knows he's loved. Plus, it's fun to hear him sputter telepathically.
