Room 218, Thursday Afternoon

Spending one day hiding recuperating was one thing. No one could blame her for needing a day to adjust to the idea that she'd been very nearly killed. On a meat-tree. A day where she could hide, skip classes, ignore everyone--or nearly everyone--and just huddle under the covers for hours on end.

But putting everyone off for a second day would just be inexcusable. So rather than pull the blankets back over her head when her alarm went off, she made herself get up, shower, and head to class. After classes had ended, she allowed herself a nap--almost a week's worth of violence and trauma would wear anyone out--but after she woke up again, she made herself be sociable and productive.

Granted, that had ended up with her getting a surprise budgie, but on the scale of Fandom strange, that barely rated. So she decided to clean her room, put away the stuff from the cabins, and just generally make busy-work for herself so she could say she was being productive without actually having to think about anything. Besides, she doubted her texts from yesterday could buy her more than a day's grace, and she wanted her room to be presentable before anyone stopped to check in on her.

If nothing else, she wanted to make sure there was nothing on the floor around where she'd set up Warren's perch. She liked her belongings budgie-dropping free, thanks.

"They're like the demon-dead that way?" Karla asked. "I know that Lucivar would come back demon-dead just to keep bullying me."

"Are the demon-dead blue?" Ben asked.

Karla was very confused. "Why would they be?"

"That's what the Force ghosts look like," Ben said. "Kind of...blue. I don't know why."

"That's just weird," Karla decided. "Is the Force blue?"

"Not that I've ever noticed," Ben replied.

"Your world is just bizarre," Karla decided. There, that explained everything.

"Yeah, well, so's yours," he said, dropping a kiss on the top of her head. "Let's just say that they lived happily ever after for the next two weeks and I'll tell you another part of the story later."

"Sounds fair," she agreed, snuggling back around to get comfortable again. "Also, your idea of bedtime stories is awful."

Ignore how fond her voice sound right there.

"Hey, the big three lived," Ben said. "You'll learn that's pretty much as happy as it gets at home."

"Next time, I'm demanding 'Dance, Dance, Little Batha,'" Karla informed him. "Complete with a dance."

"There's no dance," he lied.

[glacial_queen]

"Li~ar," Karla sing-songed. "And I bet Tahiri, Anakin, and Leia would all be happy to tell me there is."

"Ask Granddad," Ben said. "I bet he sings it to Juliet."

[glacial_queen]

"I'll tell him that you thought some of his moves in your last workout reminded you of the dance," Karla threatened.

"I'll tell Mini-Morton you need to nap for the rest of the week," Ben threatened back.

[glacial_queen]

"I'll...tell..." Karla groped for a sufficient threat. "The owner of Chilly Boulder that you're lactose intolerant!"

"They'd never believe you," Ben said, smirking.

[glacial_queen]

"Fine, then," Karla sniffed. "I'll just kill their power and watch all their ice cream melt into gooey little puddles."

"You wouldn't," Ben gaped.

[glacial_queen]

"I'd pay for that, of course," Karla mused. "It wouldn't be fair for them, after all. But what's a little bit of money, you know?"

"You're very cruel," Ben decided.

Ripping out still-beating hearts was fine. Ruining ice cream was just wrong.

"You started it."

Regardless of, you know, the actual facts of the situation, Ben had clearly started it.

"I did not," Ben said, "but maybe the blood loss is making you delusional."

[glacial_queen]

"Maybe your FACE is making me delusional," Karla sniffed. While holding onto his arm so he couldn't take that as an excuse to leave.
