Karla received the picture and immediately burst out laughing, waving Warren over so she could show it off.

He seems to have some kind of creatures attached to his face, she noted. Do the people of that planet have a symbiotic relationship with rodents?

Karla was halfway through a response when Ender's second text came through. She immediately discarded that one and began again. Tell him that if he doesn't shave it before he visits, he will be subjected to wacky hijinks until I succeed in shaving it.

She figured that was an acceptable threat. And it was much better than her original message that had started with Tell him you're feeling adventurous and tie him to the bed a--. Or, rather, Ender would likely appreciate it more.

That's a yes, on the minuscule off-chance you didn't get that.

At least that had saved her from a lecture on the specificities of Ben's past trauma and how tying up was never, ever on the table. (It also saved Ben from anyone having that conversation, for that matter.)

It did! Which was all for the best because then they got to avoid the spiraling guilt for having forgotten said trauma in the first place.
